According to reports, a trojan that seizes control of PC files, and demands ransom money from users has been doing the rounds for almost a month. The phenomenon is termed "Ransomware" while the trojan is dubbed "Archiveus". The newly-discovered trojan does not allow victims to access their hard drive, unless the ransom money is paid-up. "Archiveus" copies all files from the 'My Documents' folder to a new folder, encrypts these files with a 30-digit complex password, and deletes the original documents. The trojan leaves a note on the desktop, advising the user not to tell the police, and asking him/her to pay the ransom. -->In some of the reported cases, victims were actually asked to buy drugs from an online chemist to get the password for accessing the PC; in some other cases, they were asked to transfer the ransom money to an overseas bank account. In the former case, the trojan attempted to force victims to buy pharmaceuticals from a Russian Web site for $ 75 or more, depending on the drug. However, the good news is that anti-virus companies have found the password to unlock the data inside the encrypted file that was being used by hijackers to make money. Interestingly, this password was found within the code of the trojan virus itself. It is also learnt that "Archiveus" is using some parts of another ransoming virus called Cryzip that was circulating in March 2006. The scam is believed to have started in the US last year, and has now shown up in Britain. The first victim claimed by the scam, Helen Barrow, a 40-years old nurse, was instructed to buy drugs from an online pharmacy. Her PC got infected when she opened an email attachment that claimed to be an anti-virus. The earlier versions of this trojan were mainly spyware, identity theft, and adware/spyware, some of which instructed victims to pay the ransom money through Web sites including eGold, Webmoney, etc. |

Group Talk Magic
Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 10:41 PM Posted by PA Jones
Idea Cellular and Kodiak Networks have announced the introduction of Group Talk - a compilation of innovative group-oriented voice applications, for customers in the Maharashtra and Goa circles. Idea intends to make Group Talk available to the company's 7.3-million odd prepaid and postpaid wireless subscribers in subsequent months.
Kodiak's Real-Time Exchange (RTX) system has been deployed by Idea for enabling the voice services applications that use SIM cards as delivery mechanism. The applications are enabled through Kodiak SIMpower - a smart thin client providing premium voice service functionality on existing GSM handsets.
The Group Talk application suite includes the following voice services: Voice Bridge, an instant group conferencing application that offers quick setting-up of full-duplex and mobile-originated conference calls, accommodating up to ten participants; Instant Availability that is similar to instant messaging applications; Walkie-Talkie that is push-to-talk calling along with other Group Talk users; Group SMS that complements existing voice services, by enabling discreet text communications in the event of unavailability of recipients; Quick Groups; and Contact and Groups Management.
Vikram Mehmi, chief executive officer, Idea Cellular, said, "We selected Kodiak Networks because they could help us address the voice services requirements for group communication of the corporate and SME customers who are predominantly on postpaid, and the youth segment who are largely on prepaid. By utilizing the SIM and the Symbian Applet as the delivery mechanism for these enhanced voice services, we have obviated the need for custom handsets, thus enabling the entire customer base to avail of the services. With Group Talk, our customers can quickly and efficiently access the best group communications experience possible."
Kris Patel, executive vice president - products and customer support, and chief technology officer, Kodiak Networks, said, "Idea Cellular is leading the industry by offering these advanced voice services to their prepaid and postpaid customer base of over 7.3 million users. As these applications are group-oriented, they require that end users can easily create communities of friends, family, and colleagues at the touch of a button. Leveraging the SIM to deploy these applications should expedite service adoption and rapidly increase usage among customers."
Google got US patent for a voice interface for search engines.
Friday, April 14, 2006 at 8:21 PM Posted by PA Jones
In a win-win for Google, co-founder Sergey Brin along with three other persons has been granted a US patent for a voice interface for search engines.
This essentially means if and when Google has a product to show for its patent, users will be able to phone an internet search query or say it aloud instead of typing it in - the way they do presently. Of course naysayers predict that not all patent applications necessarily translate into prospective product announcements for the company.
Alexander Franz and Brian Milch - authors of the patent application, had written about such an interface in their 2002 academic paper dubbed "Searching the Web by Voice". Brin and company filed the patent in 2001, post which Google did make the voice search feature available though briefly through Google Labs, its veritable hotbed for just-out-of-the-egg ideas.
The patent filing is reportedly worded, "there exists a need for a voice interface that is effective for search engines". The document suggests that Google will be utilizing the reams of its stored text and audio queries to enhance speech recognition and relevance.
Although analysts are betting upon the chances of search engines treating speech and speech-related issues as the hot new topic; for entities such as the US Department of Justice and others, this could well be reason for some more sleepless nights over concerns regarding individual privacy.
India Added 3.9 new GSM user
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 10:20 AM Posted by PA Jones
India, the world's fastest growing mobile phone market, added a record 3.9 million new GSM users in March, an industry body said on Saturday.
A statement from the Cellular Operators' Association of India, which represents the country's nine GSM carriers, said the past month's additions boosted the total GSM customer base to about 69.1 million.
Including subscribers on the rival CDMA technology, India added a total of 5.14 million mobile customers in March, taking the total number of mobile users to 90.54 million.
March CDMA figures were released earlier this week by the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India.
India, which is Asia's third largest economy, has among the world's lowest call rates at less than 2 U.S. cents a minute, charges that have been attracting subscribers in the millions.
Competition among providers is intense with demand for mobile services growing fast and carriers have been expanding networks in rural areas where two-thirds of India's billion-plus people live.
India's top telecoms firm by sales, unlisted state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., added nearly 1.1 million subscribers in March, raising its GSM user base to 17.2 million.
India's top mobile services firm, Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd., also added about 1.1 million new users, propelling its customer base to 19.6 million.
UK-based mobile giant Vodafone Group Plc owns a 10 percent stake in Bharti, which is also 30.84 percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel).
Hutchison Essar Telecom Ltd., the Indian wireless operation of Hong Kong's Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd., added more than 0.8 million new users in March. The firm's user base now stands at about 15.4 million customers.
Rival CDMA operators include Reliance Communications Ventures Ltd., which added 784,211 users in March taking its base to 15.4 million, while the salt-to-software Tata group's unlisted Tata Teleservices Ltd. saw its user base rise by 477,136 additions to nearly 4.9 million.

Google anounced new search algorithm Orian
at 9:58 AM Posted by PA Jones
Google has bought a new search algorithm penned by Ori Alon, an Israeli student from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Apparently they beat Microsoft and Yahoo, who were also interested in the super-advanced technique for prioritizing relevance in text-searches.
The algorithm called Orion, works out the most relevant text on which to perform a search. It only works in English and rates the text by quality of the site in which it appears. Orion will make searches less-time consuming, by working with existing search engines and expanding on their function. Moreover, instead of finding pages on the net that contain keywords, then providing links, the new search engine will provide expanded text extracts which will eradicate the need to open every link.
Orion had sparked interest from the likes of Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, with Google eventually acquiring the rights to the algorithm. Alon stated that Orion would improve the speed and focus of internet searches making it an invaluable service. As its developers say, the new search-engine tool will revolutionize the way people retrieve information from the internet. Alon further explained that, it also provides a list of terms or topics related to the original search keyword. This new tool would make net surfing much easier and less frustrating, giving information directly and immediately making it a great time-saver for users.
According to sources, it is confirmed that Ori Alon works at Google's Mountain View, California offices. Unfortunately there is no public demo of Orion, but this system is said to give users the most relevant results and a list of suggested topics that the user may not be aware of.

TRAIs pushback to LifeTime operators
at 10:13 PM Posted by PA Jones
With subscribers having had a string of lifetime offers thrown at them recently by service providers, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has rightfully stepped-in and issued much-needed regulations on this slew of schemes.
TRAI has given an order that bars telecom operators from charging tariff on lifetime prepaid offers as long as they remain in business. TRAI's directive is intended to protect the interests of subscribers who make an upfront payment in lieu of certain promised features including validity, as also to bring more clarity to the concept of lifetime validity.
Issuing the order, TRAI has further pointed out that in case of tariff plans offered or marketed as having lifetime or unlimited validity in lieu of an upfront payment, subscribers of such plans will continue to get service as long as the service provider is permitted to provide such telecom service under the existing or renewed license.
Service providers are required to inform subscribers of the month and year of the expiry of the current license.
TRAI has prohibited operators from hiking tariffs for any service specified in the lifetime tariff plans, during the entire lifelong validity period.
Furthermore in case of tariff plans other than plans with lifetime validity that have a component of upfront payment, the service providers are not allowed to hike tariffs during the promised validity period of such plans.
Like in the case of lifetime validity plans, subscribers of other tariff plans will continue to get service during the entire promised validity period.
Meanwhile operators have conveyed that if regulatory or policy changes do not make the lifetime plan viable, they retain the freedom to withdraw it at any point of time.

Google Top Once again
at 12:20 AM Posted by PA Jones
Lagging behind Google are Yahoo that managed 22.5 per cent of online searches, while MSN took-up 10.7 percent of the total online search share. AOL and My Way Search rounded out the top five search providers with 6.6 and 2.7 percent of searches, respectively.
Google has beaten arch rivals to once again notch top slot in the search engines' category.
As per the Nielsen/NetRatings report Google has been voted the world s most popular search engine, with 48.5 percent of all searches conducted in the US in February 2006 having been carried out on Google.
Search share among these five providers has remained relatively flat since January 2006, with all providers gaining or losing less than one percentage point only.
Meanwhile rival comScore Media Matrix has reported that Google's share of the search market increased by 6 percent this year, to reach 42.3 percent of total search in February 2006. Yahoo's share according to Media Matrix fell to 27.6 percent from the 31.1 percent a year ago, while MSN dropped down to 13.5 percent from the earlier 16.3 percent.
Michael Lanz, vice president - search industry solutions, Nielsen/NetRatings, said that the numbers of people searching had stayed the same, although they seemed to be searching more and more.
The total number of searches were found to have increased by 38 per cent, from 3.8 billion in February 2005 to 5.3 billion in February 2006.
Lanz sees search usage intensity increasing, not only in the number of searches done per person for general web content, but also for searches initiated specifically for photos and graphics, as well as for comparison of shopping information.
According to Web Analytics, this growth is due in large part to an increased number of searches per person, particularly in the image search and shopping search categories.
Google was found to be holding a comfortable lead in image search as well. According to Nielsen/NetRatings, 71.9 percent of image search was conducted through Google. However in terms of market share, Google lost 4.4 percent if compared to February 2005.
Yahoo was able to raise its image search share from 13.9 percent to 19.1 percent. Ask.com climbed from 1.5 percent to 3.5 percent, and AOL gained 1.0 percent to 1.4 percent. MSN's image search was listed unchanged at 2.3 percent.
The increase in image searches is attributed to the growing number of broadband households, and the rising popularity of social-networking sites.

SMS to Send your RESUME
Sunday, April 02, 2006 at 3:27 PM Posted by PA Jones
Picture this. Your environ restricts you from applying for a job that comes with an ASAP tag. You're stuck at your workplace and can't send your resume from the office computer.
Also imagine the similar situation with a tinge difference. You can't afford an Internet connection at home and there's no café nearby. How about sending your Curriculum Vitae through an SMS?
Yes you've read it right! The above-mentioned tricky situations can be a thing of the past, thanks to a new website smsresume.com.
All one needs to do is register with the Hyderabad-based website and create an ID. Once a registered user you can send resumes using the cell phone. To apply for jobs one needs to compose resume, user's mail id, recruiter's mail id, subject and send it to the number, 3030.
The smsresume.com server collects the data and sends it to the desired mail ID along with the covering letter the user posts on his account. The mail that goes to the recruiter looks as if it has been send from the applicant mailbox and not through an SMS.
What's more satisfying is that the user receives a confirmation immediately after the resume delivery. In a nutshell the process is an amalgamation of the mobile and the Internet technology.
“These days even villagers possess cell phones. Even if one doesn't have a cell phone, it can be borrowed easily from friends. But how many have access to the Internet? It's simple and easy. By sending an SMS, one can send his/her resume to the desired organization. It's spontaneous and real time,” explains HR consultant Sreenivas Rao Chennamaneni of smsresume.com.
One thing that comes to the mind is that covering letter saved may not apply to all the jobs. “For this one can save a general covering letter that can be used for all the jobs,” prescribes Sreenivas.
The recently launched website now has more than 500 registered users. So far about 150 users have made us of the service provided by it.
To enhance the website, plans are afoot to introduce job alerts and work force management sections. “We are working to include job alerts and workforce management. The workforce management will work in a similar fashion. Anyone who needs workers can send an SMS and we'll send the information to the persons cell phone inbox,” says Sreenivas.
The website, run by indianhr.com, is in talks with companies in Kuwait and Malaysia for partnership. “In future we would like to sell certain tools to some companies. For that we will customize the service for those companies,” informs Sreenivas.

Fresh on the heels of a delay in broad availability of Windows Vista, Microsoft confirmed late Thursday that it is also pushing the mainstream launch of Office 2007 to next year.
As with Vista, Microsoft hopes to finish the code for Office 2007 this year and make it available to some large businesses by the end of December.
Microsoft announced the Vista delay Tuesday. With the twin push backs, the PC industry's holiday season is shaping up to be quite different than the one originally expected. Microsoft has said it doesn't expect the Vista delay to dent PC sales in the fourth quarter, but analysts have largely disagreed.
Microsoft is making major changes with the new Office, which will feature all-new XML-based file formats as well as a completely overhauled user interface, among other changes.
By pushing out the Office launch date, however, Microsoft will regain the ability to launch the two products in tandem. Microsoft had been planning a massive fourth quarter launch for the products.
Earlier on Thursday, Microsoft announced it was naming Office head honcho Steven Sinofsky to head a new Windows and Windows Live development group. Microsoft said Sinofsky will work with Microsoft Business Division President Jeff Raikes in the coming weeks to help determine who will lead the Office business after his move.
The change in launch timing for Office 2007 was noted earlier Thursday by Jupiter Research analyst Joe Wilcox on his Microsoft Monitor blog.
Microsoft in November had released an initial test version of Office 2007, then known by its Office 12 code name. A broader test version is planned for this spring.

Spice Telecom, the oldest cellular service provider in Karnataka, has lived up to its reputation of continuously being in the news...
Last month, the company announced its foray into the handset market with four new handset models. This month, Spice has announced the launch of a few interesting schemes like "Calling India," an offer giving attractive STD rates. Spice customers - both prepaid and postpaid, can now make calls anywhere in the country for just Rs 1. It will cost Spice customers 30 paise to make calls to other Spice phones, and Rs 1 to other phones.
Spice has also announced an offer on SMS services, proposing a charge of 30 paise for every local or national SMS on a package involving a Rs 49 monthly rental. The ISD rates are charged at Rs 7.2 per minute.
Navin Kaul, chief operating officer, Spice Telecom, said that the drive behind this tariff is to give the best of the rates in the industry to Spice customers.
Further - according to latest reports - Spice has added new cell towers across the state of Karnataka covering areas including Yarmal, Uchila, Hejamadi, Mulki, Karkala Road, Paradise Island Resort, Malpe Beach, etc, to offer clarity in voice and coverage to its subscribers.
Apparently the company has also carried out a new system doubling of the switch capacity, thereby increasing the network's capacity to accommodate more subscribers as also helping in maintaining service quality.
Paypal Going Mobile
Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 8:42 PM Posted by PA Jones
aypal - the online payment service owned by eBay, is reportedly testing a new offering that allows consumers to make purchases and money transfers using simple text messaging through mobile phones.
The latest service dubbed "PayPal Mobile," is currently being tested by several eBay employees, and is slated to launch in the next couple of weeks in USA, UK and Canada - with over 55 other countries expected to follow suit.
PayPal Mobile promises to allow people make payments, buy various items, etc, using mobile devices. PayPal Mobile offers two options for transferring funds by phone; payments can either be sent over the phone via a text message, or a call can be made to an automated customer service system, and funds can be transmitted using voice commands.
In case of either option, users have to first register their mobile devices with PayPal's Web site and select a code to protect themselves against unauthorized users.
If the user opts for text messaging, he/she has to send a text message containing the amount to be transferred and the recipient's phone number to PayPal. The sender is then called back by a PayPal computer, and asked to confirm the transaction. Post this, PayPal immediately notifies the recipient and tells him/her how to claim the payment online.
In the event the user chooses the second option, he/she has to call 1-800-4PAYPAL for the transaction to be realized.
PayPal says that its PayPal Mobile service might effectively transform mobile phones into electronic wallets of sorts...
Microsoft Delays Vista
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:37 PM Posted by PA Jones
In an announcement, the company has pushed-back the launch of its already delayed Vista to consumers - from late 2006 to early 2007, quoting the reason that PC manufacturers need sufficient time to test the running of this platform on their systems. But yes - the business version will arrive till November 2006, though home users will have to wait until Jan 2007.
Jim Allchin, co-president, Microsoft Corp, said that the industry requires greater lead time to deliver Windows Vista on new PCs during the holiday season, and that hence the company has decided to separate business from consumer availability.
Windows Vista is being awaited with baited breath - especially since it is Microsoft's first major update to its operating system - since the launch of Windows XP in late 2001.
Currently available in limited beta version, Microsoft plans to make available six versions of Windows Vista. Vista promises to be an improvement over Windows XP in terms of security functions and a quicker start-up. Yet it is believed that when Vista releases, some of the key features that were originally intended - will be conspicuously absent.
Although disappointment hangs in the air post Microsoft's announcement, most users are in agreement over the premise that it is better for Microsoft to ship a completed product rather than one like the much criticized Windows XP.
Sify introducing Mobile Shoping
Monday, March 20, 2006 at 8:31 PM Posted by PA Jones
Things just got better for mobile phone users on GPRS services! Sify Limited's online shopping portal, www.sifymall.com, has announced a tie-up with JiGrahak - a mobility solutions provider, to enable millions of mobile phone users on GPRS services to buy a wide variety of products and services over their phones.
SifyMall will utilise JiGrahak's m-commerce/m-payment platform "NGPay" (Next Generation Pay), in order to provide the new mobile shopping service.
Speaking at the launch, Surya Mantha, senior vice president - interactive services, SifyMall, said, "We are happy to be working with JiGrahak in bringing secure M-Commerce services to the millions of mobile subscribers using GPRS services in India. With the Indian mobile subscriber base growing at the rate of about 2 million users a month, and expected to touch 200 million by 2007, the potential for mobile shopping is huge. We expect to grow the mobile shopping service space with this 'one-of-its kind' offering, and work towards being a leader in this area. In addition to buying products and services from SifyMall, Sify broadband users can now also renew their broadband subscriptions through this application, using their mobiles for convenience."
Sourabh Jain, partner, JiGrahak Mobility Solutions, said, "JiGrahak is excited to have Sify on board the NGPay platform. The potential of 'Anytime, Anywhere' commerce has been talked about since quite some time, but technology and business challenges have remained. We believe that NGPay would help realize this immense potential, and define the world of mobile commerce and mobile payments. End-users from around the world can download and use (free-of-cost) the NGPay application on their mobile handsets from anywhere in the world, provided they have a J2ME-enabled phone and an appropriate GPRS subscription."
Other than basic models, most mobile phones are GPRS compatible. Users can call their service operators to enable GPRS facility on their phones, so that they can shop over their phones, book airline tickets online, browse websites, etc. With a GPRS-enabled mobile connection, users can log on to www.ngpay.com and download the NGPay application on to their mobile handsets.
Once installed, this application can then be used to shop "Anytime, Anywhere" for various products such as flowers, books, Movie DVDs and VCDs on SifyMall.com.
To start with, payments can be made using credit cards; later users can graduate to making payments from bank accounts.
Microsoft coming in ad network
Friday, March 17, 2006 at 7:48 PM Posted by PA Jones
In an attempt to catch-up with rivals including Google and Yahoo, Microsoft has started testing online ads on Live - its new web services network.
Microsoft plans to display ads from around 20 advertisers as part of a year-long trial program, on its network comprising Office Live, email service Windows Live Mail and social networking service MSN Spaces.
Although Microsoft attracts a huge online traffic, the company has lagged behind its rivals in terms of generating ad revenue. Microsoft is hopeful that its Live.com portal will be useful in eventually creating an advertising network.
In a separate announcement, Microsoft has launched the beta version of its Windows Live Family Safety Settings service.
"Family Safety Settings" provides several free tools to work with Windows Live and other Microsoft applications, to offer enhanced safety in PC- and Web-based activities.
The new service incorporates features such as content filtering for the Web, contact management tools for e-communications, online activity reports, etc.
The content filtering feature lets users apply settings like "allow" or "block" to different Web sites or content categories. Contact Management is applicable to Microsoft online communications services, and enables parents to create lists which either allow or restrict children from accessing specific sites. The Online Activity Reports feature makes it possible for parents to access information about what their family members are doing online.
The new service is slated to become available this summer, and will be offered to customers using Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista. Microsoft says that it prefers calling its new product Family Safety Settings rather than Parental Controls, since neither parents nor children are too fond of that particular term.
Apparently as Microsoft does not consider itself an expert in child psychology, the company has teamed up with third party experts such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which was responsible for creating the recommended default settings of the new service. Tie-ups with similar such organizations are in the pipeline.
Microsoft maintains that its aim is to be less intrusive, and to make Family Safety Settings something which will go down well with both parents and kids.

A notice to telephone operators from trai
at 7:55 PM Posted by PA Jones
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued showcause notices on network congestion to cellular operators including Bharti Tele-Ventures, Tata Teleservices, Reliance Infocomm, Reliance Telecom, BPL Mobile, and Spice Communication. TRAI stated that in the quarter ended December 2005, the networks of these operators had registered an increase in the number of point of interconnections (PoIs) having congestion more than the 0.5 percent benchmark.
Hutchison-Essar, Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, and Idea Cellular were not sent notices since according to TRAI, their networks did not show a similar increase in congestion vis- -vis the TRAI benchmark. Post studying the performance of various cellular mobile service providers in the quarter ended December 2005, TRAI found that though there had been some improvement in meeting prescribed standards as regards service quality, the performance of most operators had deteriorated in respect of PoI congestion. The regulator expressed the view that looking at the state of affairs, it was obvious that either service providers had not taken necessary steps to reduce the time period for provision of interconnection as laid-down in the interconnection agreement; or they had not approached the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to resolve the dispute - if any, regarding effecting a reduced time period for augmentation of interconnection. On November 29, 2005, TRAI had issued a directive to all cellular operators asking them to ensure that by December 31, 2005, all service parameters including levels of PoI congestion, would be brought within TRAI benchmarks. Before that, a study through July to September 2005 had shown that PoI congestion was more than prescribed benchmarks in almost 364 locations; the figure rose to 398 by end December.

Cisco= SIP+IP
Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 7:25 PM Posted by PA Jones
Cisco Systems has announced plans to adopt a key Internet Protocol telephony standard, which will allow for the addition of new network service features and will let companies like Microsoft integrate their communications products with Cisco gear.
Cisco Systems said it will add support for SIP (session initiation protocol), to its IP PBX software.
SIP helps establish contact between IP phones, and enables addition of special features such as presence awareness, video or mobility capabilities, onto a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network. SIP also allows companies using VoIP to considerably lower the cost of deploying such a network.
The latest version of Cisco's product - CallManager 5.0, will include SIP capabilities for Cisco IP phones, multimedia communications software, and presence-awareness software.
So far Cisco has been the only major supplier not to support SIP in its IP PBX software. Barry O'Sullivan, vice president - IP communications, Cisco, said that the company move is in line with the fact that IP telephony is no longer restricted to toll bypass, and that people need to be able to communicate and collaborate through the means that best suits them.
Although CallManager 5.0 is geared to work with any SIP-based phone, Cisco intends to support a softphone or PC-based phone client for Research In Motion's BlackBerry handheld and Nokia's new dual-mode phones.
In another announcement, Cisco said, it plans to bring together the worlds of voice, data, video and mobile communications in the form of a new architecture dubbed the Cisco Unified Communications system.
A key part of this architecture - the Cisco Unified Personal Communicator would combine different communications media. Unlike its pre-decessors, the new Communicator will be made available in two versions; one based on Microsoft Communicator, and the other based on Linux.
Cisco announced it is working with Microsoft Corp to integrate Microsoft's Office Communicator 2005 and Office Live Communications, with Cisco's Unified Communications System.
In effect, users will be able to launch a VoIP conversation directly from their Microsoft Outlook client. The interoperable package is expected to ship in August 2006.
